Figlmüller

Plenty of people, all there for the same reason, and inside an order you don't expect. Immaculate, precise, clean in an almost stern way, with that green on the walls that calms rather than unsettles. The coming and going leaves no mark, no table left to itself, no visible hurry on anyone serving.

Figlmüller is at Wollzeile 5, a few steps from St. Stephen's, and has stood there since 1905, when Johann Figlmüller opened a small wine tavern behind the cathedral. Today Thomas and Hans Figlmüller, the fourth generation, keep it going. The pork schnitzel spilling over the edge of the plate is the house specialty, and the potato salad is the side they have served alongside it from the start.
