Da Bertino

It feels like a place stopped in time, in the good sense. At the entrance the bar counter on the right, then the first room, and right away on the left the bollito cart: just seeing it, and hearing the owner talk it through as he portions, is enough to start the mouth watering before sitting down. An atmosphere of another era, family-run, nothing chasing a trend.

Da Bertino is on Via delle Lame, just outside the heart of Bologna, and was founded in 1957. Alberto Roda, known as Bertino, opened it, and today his children keep it going: Stefano works the bollito cart in the dining room, sliced and portioned on the spot, while Claudia is in the kitchen and signs the desserts, the zuppa inglese first among them. The cart rolls between the tables all year round, not just in winter.
